Liar liar
How exciting were things in Egypt Friday? I watched online as the people partied, believing the President was about to resign. Then he gave his speech, letting them know he would stick around until September 20. I was listening today as we found out he had left Cairo for the seashore, then that he would make an "important" statement, and finally it was announced that he had stepped down. There was an amazing amount of energy in the plaza, with singing, and chanting, and people who hadn't been there rushing in to celebrate the news.
I'm not talking about my back and toe problems. They're fixable, but painfully present throughout the day.
A while ago I tried to take a nap, but couldn't, so I got up, checked Google News, and caught the official spokesman for the International cycling union in a bold-faced, layered, brazen lie.
The last couple of days has been crazy, with people talking who shouldn't be, leaks, Contador having to tell the world that the Spanish cycling federation had been intimidated because the UCI and WADA had used the media to put political pressure on them. The Prime Minister of Spain had his official twitterer send a tweet that said there was no legal reason for Contador to be punished.
Then today, this UCI guy shows up in Madrid, and contradicts his own January 10 interview with an Italian website, and the official press release from that same date, trying to clear his own organization of blame and making the Competition Committee look foolish.
Catching the UCI in a lie where both parts are in writing is a big deal, especially in the circumstance. I'm trying to get the word out now.
Kim Clijsters had a dominant performance today to take her to number one in the world. They gave her a nice crystal vase afterward, and she gave an impromptu speech in French.
Have a great weekend. Mine will be spent following the Contador saga. Damn it.
