Sinusense, Bronx Zoo Cobra

Tennis coverage starts later today, so I thought I'd get my post in now. First off, important sinus news. My whole life, when there was congestion in my head, it was easier for me to kind of inhale it and let it go down my throat, rather than blast it out my nose like family members commanded. Some years ago, around this time of year, when my job was Hell, I lost the ability to sleep. It went on for days. They told me it wasn't possible, but I figured if I could look over and see the time every minute, and not miss any, it meant I was awake.

Eventually it led me to an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist, who decided I needed double surgery on my sinuses. He told me afterward that "there was a ton of gunk up there...you should have been there". Like I mentioned the other week, I was told to buy bottles of saline spray and use them for the rest of my life, but I could never afford the habit.

The mailman just delivered my free Waterpik Sinusense kit I'd gotten via Slickdeals. I microwaved eight ounces of Brita filtered water, dumped in the pouch of salty goodness, shoved the tip of the bottle up one nostril, and shot it out the other, per directions. Then I repeated to the other side, and on the last go, something dislodged and went down my throat. Fun times. When I used to swim, I spent a lot of time underwater, because I had great breath-holding ability as a fat kid, and it only got better once I was a runner, tennis player, basketball player, cyclist, etc. Right now my head feels like it did in those days, after a bunch of diving and underwater swimming.

I forgot to mention it yesterday, but I saw Paul, the film, online the other night. I didn't get much out of it. I liked Shaun Of the Dead, and watched Hot Fuzz several times, but this had no appeal for me. Right, Seth Rogen is a stoner. Got it. He ruined Green Hornet. No thank you.

I tried to watch a bit of a poor copy of Sucker Punch last night. I might give it a chance on the big, clear screen, but I don't think it will be the extravaganza I've anticipated for months.

A cobra went missing at the Bronx Zoo the other day, and is now posting on Twitter as @BronxZoosCobra. I started following the second I heard about it, and the media mentions keep getting in the act. It's pretty hilarious, as everyone from politicians to Sesame Street are getting in on the act.

I'm now a big fan of Andrea Petkovic. I'd been following her on twitter because she's quirky, but yesterday, after beating Wozniacki the day before, I saw her beat Jankovic in a really hard-fought match. It was like watching her come into her own as a tennis player.

I watched a ton of tennis yesterday, finally.

Remember the $5 surprise monthly charge that overdrew my checking account last week? I called yesterday. They said that they changed a bunch of fees on March 1. We had a polite conversation. At the end, she said that as a courtesy, she'd reverse the charge one time. I got back my five bucks, cashed a check this morning, and bought a three dollar Powerball ticket.

WADA decided to also appeal the Contador decision, so battle lines are being drawn. Former Irish twitter pal didn't post part 2 of his obnoxious anti-Contador interview. I hope it means that Alberto's lawyers smacked him back into place. He's been a real____. Choose your own expression.

I can't get over how good food tastes to me right now. I had one of those thin slices of sharp cheddar cheese last night, and it tasted SO good. That one slice of cheese was better, or more satisfying, than a whole box of mac and cheese.

They had to move her match away from TV courts due to rain delays, but Clijsters was down 5-1 in the third and match points, and managed to come back to win. I did that myself in one of the few tourneys I played. I wish I could have seen her comeback.

I'm still sweating out whether the phone company will shut me down before I can call in a payment Thursday night.

I could tell I was out of MAF this morning. I am trying to make my life better. Since Earth Hour, I'm keeping my toaster oven and microwave unplugged when not in use, and turning off the whole power strip of computer stuff at night. Before, any cash I had floating around turned into food, even something expensive like a delivery pizza. Now all food is paid for with the plastic card, and I won't use any cash for fast food or whatever when I have an apartment full of healthy stuff. So now I'm trying to pinch pennies so I can keep myself on MAF, and maybe Sam-e, and keep working on my life.

I haven't been having those periods during the day where, especially a couple of hours after I got up, I kind of crash here on the couch, struggling to stay alert. I'm pretty convinced that those were blood sugar crashes. The healthy foods are making a difference. I'm going to add green tea with a bit of citrus juice to the mix. Three cups a day is recommended, but it's expensive, so unless I catch a massive sale, I'll figure an imperfect (but really strong) one cup a day is better than none.

I really am playing mad scientist with my diet now.

Time for tennis. Ciao
